Neutralising our impact
Did you know that to offset the carbon emissions of an average vehicle for a year it takes roughly 15 trees to be planted? We are proud to partner with 15 Trees to offset our emissions.
Our most recent planting (30 trees) occurred in Westgate Park. Tucked beneath the lanes of the Westgate Bridge, one of Melbourne’s busiest and most recognisable highways, a park is growing. Westgate Biodiversity is a not-for-profit organisation on a quiet mission to bring native bushland back to one of the most industrialised pockets of the city.
This adds a wonderful diversity of native species to the site – Heath, Golden, Lightwood and Coastal wattles, three varieties of sheoak, Grey and Marsh saltbushes, a range of correas and a rich selection of eucalypts including River Red Gum, Yellow Gum, Ironbark, Swamp Gum and Manna Gum.
Together, these species will create something far greater than the sum of their parts. Flowering and fruiting at different times across the seasons, they’ll provide a year-round supply of food and shelter for birds, insects and small mammals moving through this emerging wildlife habitat. Over time, Westgate Park will become a genuine biodiversity corridor in the heart of Melbourne – a place where nature has quietly, stubbornly reclaimed its ground.
